The Archival and Library Material Conservation Laboratory

The Archival and Library Material Conservation Department of the Directorate of the National Archive of Monuments is responsible for documenting, conserving and storing the Archive’s material. The conservation treatments taking place in the Department aim to the preservation of information and its inheritance to the following generations of researchers..

The laboratory was designed from scratch, concluding to the usage of state of the art equipment and procedures. The specialised personnel decide on the deliberately not so interventive conservation workflow with respect to the original materials of the objects.

From October 2009 the laboratory is collaborating with the Faculty of Conservation of Antiquities and Work of Art (S.A.E.T.) of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (T.E.I. of Athens), in order to provide the students of the Department with the possibility of practical work and familiarisation with real conditions on the conservation and the preservation of library and archival material.
