Group of Aphrodite, Pan and Eros. Found in the “House of the Poseidoniastai” of Berytos (Beirut), on Delos. The right arm and the upper part of the head of Aphrodite, as are the legs and left arm of Eros, and the horns and right leg of Pan. The right arm of Eros is missing. Three fingers of Aphrodite’s left hand and the index finger of her right are restored in plaster. Traces of colour can be made out in many places. The nude goddess Aphrodite attempts to fend off the goat-footed god Pan who makes erotic advances to her. She holds her sandal threateningly in her right hand, while the winged god Eros comes to her aid. According to the inscription on the base, the group was dedicated by Dionysios of Berytos to his ancestral gods. Height including the base: 1.55 m.
