Museum of Refugee Hellenism – Recording the collections in the National Archive of Monuments

October 10, 2023

In mid-October, the task of recording the collection of the Holy Metropolis of Neapoli and Stavropouli for the Museum of Refugee Hellenism to open in Thessaloniki at the premises of the Pavlou Mela former military camp was completed. A total of 2,500 objects related to the places of origin of the refugee populations, as well as the process of their establishment in the new reception areas, were recorded. The material, which will form the basis for the preparation of the museological study, consists of personal memorabilia, clothes, household objects or professional tools which the refugees carried with them, together with their few belongings, to start a new life, as well as images, utensils, photographs and documents. The project was funded by the Ministry of Culture in the framework of a Programme Contract jointly signed with the Holy Metropolis of Neapoli and Stavroupoli, the Major Development Agency Thessaloniki (MATH S.A. local government organisation), and the Municipality of Pavlos Melas.
