Stories from the Portal

Every object, small or large, intact or partial and incomplete, carries its own history through time At the same time, it carries a lot of information that is often hidden Information about the material it was made with, how and where it was made, the place where it was found, its use, its owner, and the society that created it, with its relationships and symbolism.

Some of this information is obvious at first glance. Other can be gleaned relatively easily with closer observation. And yet, other information requires specialisation and in-depth study to be revealed; and some may be lost forever, allowing us only to speculate or imagine it.

With this information, these objects can tell stories. On their own or in combination with other similar or quite different objects from times near or far; stories that are short or long, obvious or unlikely, familiar or strange. Stories about life and death, love, fear, power, relationships between people, or the nature that surrounds us from the very beginning of Time. Countless possible stories depending on the topics we are interested in, our ideas and values, the knowledge we already have or seek.

The Stories from the Portal that follow were created exclusively from objects that appear on the Portal of Digital Collections of Mobile Monuments. The objects themselves could tell different stories, as many as the storytellers interested in telling them.
