The Directorate for the Curation of the National Archive of Monuments, together with the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage, jointly planned the project and is now systematically involved in the monitoring groups and committees as a jointly competent Service. Within the framework of the project, a Management Information System is being created to support the evaluation process of the museums throughout Greece, both those established and managed [DA1] by the Ministry of Culture and others. The ultimate goal is to upgrade the museum landscape through consolidating high professional standards and providing quality services – both physical and online – as factors that contribute to the environmental and economic sustainability and the social impact of museum organisations, as well as to achieve targeted museum policy-making at the national level.
The Directorate is participating in this programme, which is to be gradually implemented in all museums in Greece, through its special interest and competence in documentation and digital management of collections, as well as digital strategy in general.
To date, the complete recording and documentation of the exhibits of six museums in Epirus and Western Macedonia which were certified in 2024 in the MIS of the National Archive of Monuments has been carried out.
